In 2003, the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published a review of research involving pecans and other nuts. It suggested a positive relationship between pecans and weight loss, as well as maintaining a healthy weight. Studies involved indicated improved metabolism and satiety from the consumption of nuts. Furthermore, due to their desirable flavor and texture, pecans played a useful role in supporting a diet that is low in fat. 

Pecans are low in saturated fat. In fact, a one-ounce serving contains roughly 20 grams of fat, but only 1.8 grams of saturated fat. 60 percent of the fat found in these nuts is monounsaturated, and 30 percent is polyunsaturated, both of which are considered healthy for cardiovascular health. Pecans are also nutrient rich, with more than 19 vitamins and minerals, and a good source of protein and oleic acid.
